Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has replaced top party officials of his Democracy of Citizens Party (DCP), days after the party’s launch.

In a gazette notice dated Friday, May 30 2025, Gachagua’s party announced the changes.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 20 (1) (c) and (e) of the Political Parties Act, Cap. 7D, the Registrar of Political Parties gives notice that Democracy for the Citizens Party intends to change its party officials and head office location as follows:” read part of the notice.

Among the party officials who have been replaced are: Thomas Ratemo, who was serving as National Chairperson, has been replaced by David Mingati Parseina. Mably Owino, who held the position of Secretary General, has been replaced by Hezron Obaga.

Hussein Athman, who was Deputy Secretary General Operations, has been replaced by Martin Ole Kamwalo. DCP’s National Treasurer, Laura Njeri, has now been replaced by Annah Kavuu Mutua, while the Deputy Treasurer for Operations, Abdifatah Abdullahi, has been replaced by Everngeline Wanjira Njoka.

Branded with a listening ear as its logo, DCP is positioning itself as a people-centered party that pledges to amplify the voices of ordinary Kenyans.

According to Gachagua, the party slogan, “Skiza Wakenya”, translating to “Listen to Kenyans”, shows the party’s mission to put the concerns of Kenyans at the heart of governance.

“We believe as a party that every Kenyan must be listened to by their leaders. This listening must not just be listening for the sake of it.

“It must be deliberate, planned, and must have a purpose, and must be sustainable. At no one given point in our leadership shall Kenyans be left behind or remain unheard,” said Gachagua.
