Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued a statement after former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga stormed a prayer meeting led by Dorcas Rigathi in Nyeri.
Gachagua condemned the action, stating that it was the lowest any government could go, regardless of the level of desperation.
“Unleashing the leader of an outlawed criminal gang and his goons to disrupt peaceful prayers and desecrate the altar is the lowest any Government can go no matter the level of desperation,” he said.
The incident took place at Kamukunji Grounds in Nyeri, where Pastor Dorcas was leading a prayer meeting. Eyewitnesses report that Pastor Dorcas had to leave the event abruptly after chaos broke out.
Gachagua’s spouse was hurriedly escorted from the venue by her aides amid confusion and tension.
The former Mungiki leader was not scheduled to attend the religious meeting. However, rumours were swirling around about his arrival at the meeting, which caused tension.
Gachagua Speaks After Maina Njenga Disrupts Nyeri Prayer Meeting
Videos seen by The Kenya Times show Maina Njenga arriving at the prayer meeting in convoy of vehicles with a group of youths, causing a commotion that temporarily interrupted the service.
The youth could be heard chanting “Ndovu“, referring to his elephant slogan.
The footage also shows some of the youths accompanying him occupying the dais forcing the preacher to cut off his speech as panicked congregants started scattering in fear.
Njenga later entered the tent area where Pastor Dorcas Rigathi was seated, prompting her to move to a different spot.
While addressing the congregation, Njenga dismissed claims that his arrival was politically motivated.
“I didn’t come here because of politics. In any case, I am a bishop. I heard there was a prayer meeting, and I decided to join you,” said Njenga.

Pastor Dorcas Rigathi Inviting Kenyans for Interdenominational Meeting
On Friday, January 17, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi had shared a message on her Facebook page inviting Kenyans to the prayer gathering, emphasizing faith and unity.
Reports also indicated that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was expected to attend the event as he was listed as one of the key speakers.
“We are already preparing for tomorrow’s prayers at Kamukunji Stadium, Nyeri, and we warmly welcome you to join us for this special day of seeking God together. Let us come together in unity and faith as we lift our voices in prayer for our nation,” she posted, quoting 2 Chronicles 7:14.
Njenga’s presence at the meeting comes just days after he declared support for President William Ruto’s administration during a New Year’s Eve prayer gathering at Kabiruini Showground in Nyeri.
Social media platforms were flooded with reactions, with some Kenyans condemning his interference during a peaceful event meant for spiritual growth and unity.

Uproar Among Kenyans After Former Mungiki Leader Disrupt Event
Eric Ondari expressed deep disappointment stating, “It is truly lamentable to witness a self-professed Christian engaging in a confrontation with a woman. While Maina may feel emboldened to disrupt Rigathi Gachagua’s function, he should refrain from attempting to intrude upon Pastor Dorcas’ prayer gatherings.”
He added, “One ought to show reverence for God, particularly when unable to extend the same respect to women.”
On his part Kibet Bull wrote, “The same guy who used to cry in the church for sympathy votes is the same guy paying goons to attack church believers. Mungu Baba Shuka usitumane Maina Njenga.”
Another user, Colleta Aluda, opined, “This is dirty politics. Unleashing Maina Njenga to disrupt prayer meetings, hoping to win Mount Kenya votes, is a waste of time.”
“Maina Njenga led goons at Kamukunji grounds were on one mission, to attack Rigathi Gachagua and not prayers.”
