On Saturday, January 18, former Mungiki Leader Maina Njenga disrupted a prayer meeting held at Kamukunji Grounds in Nyeri County, where Pastor Dorcas Rigathi was in attendance, leading a group of clergymen.
A video seen by The Kenya Times shows Njenga arriving at the prayer meeting accompanied by a group of youths, causing a commotion that temporarily halted the service.
Some of the youths accompanying him were seen occupying the dais.
Njenga Storms Pastor Dorcas Rigathi Meeting
Njenga later walked into the tent area where Pastor Dorcas Rigathi was seated, prompting her to relocate to a different seat. Reports indicate that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was also expected to attend the event.
On Friday, January 17, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi had shared a message on her Facebook page inviting Kenyans to the prayer gathering, emphasizing faith and unity.
“We are already preparing for tomorrow’s prayers at Kamukunji Stadium, Nyeri, and we warmly welcome you to join us for this special day of seeking God together. Let us come together in unity and faith as we lift our voices in prayer for our nation,” she posted while quoting 2 Chronicles 7:14.

There were speculations about Njenga’s possible attendance at the event, which created anticipation among attendees.
Njenga’s presence at the meeting comes just days after he declared support for President William Ruto’s administration during a New Year’s Eve prayer gathering at Kabiruini Showground in Nyeri.
Njenga’s rift with Rigathi Gachagua
At the event, he urged residents of the Mt. Kenya region to rally behind the government and advocated for cooperation between the youth and government officials to foster local development.
The former Mungiki leader also criticized Rigathi Gachagua for failing to adequately address key issues in crucial sectors like coffee and tea, which are vital to the region’s economy.

Additionally, he dismissed rumors of political divisions in the region following Gachagua’s impeachment, affirming that the community remains united in support of the government.
Njenga’s rift with former Deputy President Gachagua can be traced back to 2023.
During this period, Maina was arrested several times. The former Mungiki leader accused Gachagua of using his position as Deputy President to manipulate the police and investigative bodies to bring false charges against him.
