The government is targeting to create 14,000 job opportunities for Kenyans. This is following the investment of Devki Group in an Iron Ore Value Addition plant in Taita Taveta County.
Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya announced the Ksh11 billion investment by Devki Group, terming it as historic.
“In a significant historic development, Devki Group, one of Kenya’s leading industrial investors, is making a historic investment of Kshs.11 billion to establish an Iron Ore Value Addition Plant in Manga, Taita Taveta County,” said Mvurya.
14,000 jobs to be created by Devki
He went on to state that the initiative will create up to 14,000 jobs and will go a long way to transforming the socio-economic landscape of the Taveta region.
“This groundbreaking initiative is expected to generate 3,000 direct jobs in its first phase and, once fully operational, will create 14,000 jobs, transforming the socio-economic landscape of the region,” added Mvurya.

The CS made the remarks after a function in Manga, Taita Taveta County where he assessed Devki’s preparedness for the groundbreaking ceremony.
The ceremony will take place in December 2024 and will be presided over by President William Ruto.

He also called on leaders from the region to support the initiative.

“As I assessed the company’s preparedness ahead of the official groundbreaking ceremony by H.E President William Ruto next month, accompanied by the leadership of Taita Taveta County led by H.E Andrew Mwadime, I called on all stakeholders to support this transformative project, noting its potential to uplift the lives of the people of Taita Taveta,” stated Mvurya.

Devki Group founder and chairman Narendra Guru said the company will involve artisanal miners and local communities to assist with the various activities at the mine. The smelting plant will sit on a 202.4 hectares piece of land.
“We are roping in all artisanal miners in the area so that they can benefit. Everybody will be given the opportunity to supply iron ore to the plant,” said Guru
