A 13-year-old child was fatally shot by gunmen in Ngaratuko Village, Baringo North, barely 20 kilometers from where Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki was holding a security meeting with Rift Valley Commissioner and the Baringo security team.
The deceased was looking after cattle on October 30, when the shooting happened, with the gunmen stealing an unknown number of livestock.
After the shooting, he was rushed to Baringo County Referral Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.
Further, the attack happened a few meters from N’garatuko Primary School where KCPE and KEPSEA examinations were taking place.
The teachers were collecting the examination papers when gunshots rent the air, forcing the learners to take cover under their desks.
Kindiki issues warning

Speaking in Loruk, Baringo County during the security meeting, the CS said even leaders will not be spared, regardless in the fixing of the menace.
Additionally, he said the crackdown will not only be limited to politicians but also community and religious leaders suspected of financing and inciting criminal activities.
Notably, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) sleuths grilled three rift valley politicians, including Tiaty lawmaker, William Kamket, Sigor legislator, Peter Lochakapomg and West Pokot Senator, Julius Murgor.
The questioning was over alleged political rallies and utterances on the state of security in Baringo and the rest of the operation zone in the North Rift.
Additionally, Kindiki had earlier vowed to ensure that people in the most affected areas especially Northern Kenya and Lamu are protected.

“Notorious livestock rustlers and bandits have for years terrorized innocent residents and attacked security officers using illegal firearms, especially in Eastern and North Rift. These counties are on the radar of our specialized security agencies,” he stated in September on the issue.
