Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki has promised a cash reward for individuals who provide helpful information about Al-shabaab militants in Lamu County and Boni area.
In a statement, CS Kindiki said the government has unmasked the terror network in Lamu and Boni enclave.
Kindiki explained that the stated has declared an all-out war on dangerously armed terrorists linked to the Al-shabaab militants who bear the greatest responsibility for the atrocious murder of civilians and security personnel in Lamu and the general Boni Enclave in recent times.
“While numerous plots by the Al-shaabab and its network have been uncovered and neutralized ahead of time, several of the attacks have succeeded, resulting in the brutal killing of innocent civilians and security personnel within Lamu County and the Boni Enclave generally,” said Kindiki.
Kindiki goes after masterminds
Further, Kindiki appealed to the public to volunteer information that will lead to the arrest of thirty-five masterminds of the terror network responsible for the deadly terrorist attacks in the two regions.
“A substantial cash reward is on offer to any person who provides credible information leading to the arrest of any of the suspects,” he said.
Additionally, he said the Al-shabaab 35 terrorists being sought are connected with the placement of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on various earth roads in the area; the killing of civilians along the Lamu-Witu-Garsen Highway; the cold-blooded murders of civilians at Lango la Simba, Witu, Mpeketoni, Juhudi, Salama, Hindi, and other areas; and the attack on the American Millitary Base at Manda Bay on 5th January 2020,” stated Kindiki.
“The suspects, whose photographs will be circulated in the mainstream print media and posted on official online platforms of the Interior Ministry and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) tomorrow 18th October 2023, are ordered to surrender to any Police Station within the Republic of Kenya immediately,” added Kindiki.
Moreover, Kindiki stated that other measures and strategies have been put in place to win the war against terror in Lamu County, the Boni Enclave and elsewhere in the entire Republic.

Terrorism
Appearing before Ad-Hoc Committee on October 12, CS Kindiki said the Government has adopted a multi-agency approach in dealing with terrorism.
He said the August 1998 bombing of the United States of America (USA) Embassy in Nairobi prompted a series of security measures to tackle the threat posed by terrorism.

“Some of the measures include the establishment of specialized units such as the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU), the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTFF), Financial Reporting Centre (FRC), the Kenya Coast Guard, Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) and the Asset Recovery Agency (ARA),” said Kindiki.
Also, he said key legislations have been enacted to deal with the threat of terrorism.
Moreover, the CS explained that local and international collaboration and partnership have been enhanced to facilitate effective information sharing mechanisms.
