Opposition leader Raila Odinga has asked the speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula to resign from Kenya Kwanza.
Speaking during the Young African Leaders and Aspirants (YALA) Forum on Tuesday, October 17, Raila called on Wetangula to resign from any political party including his party Ford Kenya.
According to the Azimio leader, the speaker should not be taking any political sides and should resign from politics once sworn in as the speaker.
“Once a speaker is elected, if he was a member of a political party he must resign from that party.
“The National Assembly is completely disputed. What kind of parliament is that? A speaker is not supposed to take sides,” Raila stated.
Raila on Wetangula Attending Political Rallies
He added that Wetangula has been attending political parties and speaking of sensitive matters that are before the National Assembly.
According to the opposition leader, the speaker has shown that he is not fit to be in his position.
“We have a case here where speakers are attending political rallies speaking on issues which are before parliament. He accompanies members of parliament every weekend to harambees.

“He speaks as a member of Kenya Kwanza and hurling insults at baba yet he is the speaker of the National Assembly. The speakers are showing that they are not fit to become speakers,” he added.
Corrupt Members of Parliament
Additionally, Raila stated that there were many corrupt members of parliament adding that parliament had budgeted too much money that it did not need.
According to the opposition leader, the allocation gave room for the legislators to steal from the government.
“There are also corrupt members of parliament. There is too much money in parliament because parliament has budgeted money which it does not need. They are blackmailing the legislature.
He ridiculed state trips stating that it was a means for the legislators to us taxpayer’s money.
Therefore, they have money to bribe the members with trips. Taking them to Ireland with their wives or girlfriends. Most of the time they are on the air, changing clothes at the airport.

“When they come back, they go to Mombasa for committee meetings, and they go with their darlings. There is nothing happening in the legislature,” he stated.
Raila on Demolition at Mavoko
Moreover, Raila lamented concerning the ongoing demolitions in Mavoko, Machakos County stating that it was not right for the government to destroy people’s property.
Further, he noted that the investors had incurred huge losses including the disruption of their daily lives by the demolitions.
“The ruling was made on Friday and on Saturday the bulldozers were already on site and people had lived there for years constructing homes.
“Some of them had taken loans to put up those buildings. Students are going to school and the exams are coming. They are also putting down churches.
