Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has announced that the government will be conducting mass recruitment for Chiefs and assistant chiefs.
Speaking before the Senate on Wednesday, October 11, Kindiki stated that by the end of the financial year, the recruitment for all 9,045 sub locations and 3,955 locations will be complete.
Further, the CS disclosed that interviews had been conducted in some of the sub counties and the positions will be filled in the following 90 days.
“Plans are underway to recruit and deploy Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs to fill the vacant positions. All vacancies for Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs will be filled within this financial year.
“All vacant positions for Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs where interviews have been concluded will be filled within 90 days,” stated Kindiki.
Kindiki on the Number of Vacancies and Reason for Recruitment
At the same time, Kindiki stated that there was no accurate data to determine the exact number of vacancies across the country.
“Accurate data cannot be retrieved on the vacancies within counties except when asked for specific counties and are time bound.
Moreover, he noted that the recruitment was a result of the civil servants and their assistants getting dismissed from service.

“The vacancies are a result of natural attrition, dismissal from service for officers after their cases have been concluded by the Courts or Public Service Commission.
“There are no pending appeals before the Courts, promotion of the office holders to higher offices, resignation and redesignation of the officer holders,” added the interior CS.
The Recruitment Process
Kindiki stated that the government would consider the involvement of the public in the recruitment process to ensure efficiency.
Additionally, he stated that he was aware of cases of political influence and interference in the recruitment process, adding that security agencies were putting in place measures to ensure fairness.
“The involvement of the public can enrich the recruitment process and it is something that we are open to considering,” he noted.

Gachagua on Firing 100 Chiefs
Earlier on Sunday, October 8, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua stated that the government would fire 100 chiefs by Christmas because they were unable to tame the sale and distribution of illicit brew.
He also revealed that some of the names of individuals who would lose their jobs had already been decided by the Interior CS and himself.
“I want before Christmas in the whole country to sack about 100 chiefs so that they can be an example to others who are not working,” the DP announced.
