The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has extended teachers’ recruitment exercise after a low turnout was registered in efforts to fill the 14,000 advertised slots.

As seen by The Kenya Times, the report indicated that the most affected were special needs public schools, for positions of chief principals. principals, deputy principals, head teachers and their deputies, senior masters, as well as senior teachers—positions that are yet to attract applicants.
With the gap yet to be filled, TSC extended the recruitment deadline to June 15, 2023.

President William Ruto had recently promised to reduce the teacher-student ration, as part of his reforms for the education sector.
“I have instructed CS Education to look into this matter even as we wait to employ teachers next year. We will continue doing that in all our schools,” Ruto had then said.
The commission had planned to promote 2,733 head teachers for regular primary schools, 1,330 secondary teachers, 1,725 deputy principals, and 602 principals.
