The Board of Directors of HFC Limited has announced Samuel Makome Mwangi as an additional Independent Non-Executive Director of the company.

In a statement on February 3, HFC stated that Mwangi assumed his role with effect from January 30, 2026.

The company expressed its pleasure at the decision, stating that Makome is a good addition to the team and will help the company expand its operations and advance its long-term strategy.

HFC Appoints Samuel Makome

During his career, Samuel Makome has been involved in strategic management, business development, operations, and risk management.

The company noted that his experience in these areas will be particularly important as HFC Limited continues to strengthen its governance structures and pursue sustainable growth.

“Makome is a seasoned career banker, bringing on board over three decades of experience with top-tier banking institutions, including KCB Group, Standard Chartered and Equity Group. He has over 15 years in executive management and board experience, excelling in strategic leadership, business development, operations and risk management,” read the announcement by HFC.

HFC Limited said it was honoured to welcome Mwangi to its board and expressed confidence that his knowledge and leadership would add value to the company.

The board noted that his wide-ranging experience in both local and international banking environments would support the company’s strategic direction and help it respond effectively to industry challenges and opportunities.

Samuel Makome’s Professional Career

Samuel Mwangi Makome is a Kenyan banking executive with over 30 years of experience in the financial services sector, spanning Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and the United Kingdom.

His career has covered operations, commercial banking, strategy, risk management, and executive leadership, with senior roles in major regional and international banks.

Makome began his banking career in 1992 at KCB Bank Group, joining as a management trainee.

Between 1992 and 1994, he gained early exposure to branch operations, customer service, and internal control,s leading to his appointment as Manager, Regional Office,

In November 1994, he moved to Citibank, where he served as Manager, Operations and Service Delivery, until 1998.

Makome joined Standard Chartered Bank in 1998, beginning a ten‑year period that significantly shaped his regional and international banking experience.

From 1998 to 2001, he worked as the Africa Emerging Markets Business Process Leader.

Between 2001 and 2003, he served as Head of Business Intelligence, and from 2003 to 2006, he was Regional Operational Risk Manager for Africa.

In 2007 and 2008, he held the position of Regional Head, Consumer Banking Operations for Africa.

In 2008, Makome joined Bank of Africa Uganda as Executive Director, where he was involved in senior management and strategic decision‑making at the country level.

The following year, in 2009, he moved to Equity Bank Limited as General Manager, contributing to the bank’s rapid growth phase and strengthening its operational and business frameworks.

In November 2011, he was appointed Managing Director of Equity Bank Tanzania, a position he held until June 2013.

Makome returned to KCB Bank Group in July 2013, marking the start of a decade of senior leadership within the group.

From 2013 to 2016, he served as Managing Director of KCB Bank Kenya, overseeing the bank’s domestic operations.

He was later appointed Group Chief Operating Officer from 2016 to 2020, before becoming the Chief Commercial Officer of KCB Bank Group in 2021.

In March 2023, Makome joined Equity Group Holdings Plc as Group Chief Commercial Officer.
