Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has reported improved financial performance for the six months that ended December 31, 2025.
“The Board of Directors of the Kenya Power and Lighting Company Plc is pleased to announce the unaudited financial results for the half-year period ended 31 December 2025.” Read the statement.
For the half-year period, KPLC recorded a net profit of 10.4 B, and the Interim dividend was set at Ksh 0.30 per share.
KPLC Profit Rises on Strong Revenue Growth and Improved Efficiency
According to KPLC’S unaudited financial results, the Company recorded a profit before tax of KShs. 14.83 billion for the six months to 31 December 2025, compared to KShs.14.06 billion reported in the first period, representing an increase of KShs.769 million, which is 5.5%.

Other Results include:
- Electricity sales revenue increased by 6.9%, from Ksh 107.42 billion to Ksh.114.87 billion
- Total electricity unit sales increased by 10.5% to 8,086 GWh
- Distribution efficiency improved from 76.35% to 77.97%
- Power purchase costs increased by Ksh. 5.33 billion
- Total energy purchases increased by 8.3% to 7,807 GWh during the period
The improved performance is primarily due to higher electricity sales and lower financing costs in the country.
Other attributes include:
- Higher electricity demands
- Improved distribution and efficiency between the two periods
Debt Reduction and Stronger Cash Flows
The company has also reported that its operating expenses rose by ksh.1.43 billion, from Ksh 3.74 billion to KShs.25.16 billion in the half-year period that was driven by:
- Higher provisions for expected credit losses
- Growth in customer debt levels
- Increased depreciation arising from the capitalization of completed network projects
- Scheduled loan repayments and reduced debt levels.
Finance costs were also reduced by Ksh. 492 million the total borrowings reduced by 6% to Ksh.84.23 billion as of 31st December 2025.
The working capital position also improved, with negative working capital reducing from KShs 19.21 billion as of 30 June 2025 to KSh. 12.54 billion as of 31st December 2025.

KPLC Announces Dividend Share at 0.30 per share
KPLC announced an interim dividend of KSh.0.30 per share. This is in line with the Company’s Dividend Policy and the improved financial performance, which will be paid on or about 27th March 2026 to its shareholders.
“The Board of Directors is pleased to announce an interim dividend of KSh.0.30 per share. The interim dividend will be paid, subject to withholding tax where applicable, on or about 27th March 2026 to shareholders registered in the Company’s register at the close of business on 23rd February 2026, read the statement.
The power provider also affirmed its efforts to improve its service delivery.
“Looking ahead, we will safeguard supply adequacy as demand grows and accelerate our loss reduction programme. We are also advancing our grid modernization and digitization projects to improve service reliability and efficiency, enhance customer experience, and support sustainable growth,” stated KPLC
