Investigators attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two high school students in possession of bhang.
In a statement on August 2, DCI confirmed the arrest of the two students while noting the value of the consignment they were caught in possession of was Ksh690,000.
At the same time, the detectives revealed that the two students were in form three and four, aged 16 and 17 respectively.
“Two high school students, one aged 17 in Form 4 and the other aged 16 in Form 3, were apprehended with a large amount of cannabis and placed in custody,” DCI said.
“A meticulous search ensued, leading to the discovery of five bales of cannabis, weighing a total of 23 kilograms, cleverly concealed in the students’ bags. The street value of the seized cannabis is estimated at Ksh 690,000.”
DCI also disclosed that the two students were in transit to Busia from Nairobi when their illicit cargo was discovered.

DCI Arrest Two Students
According to the DCI, operatives got wind of the suspects’ move through a tip off to a vigilant multi-agency team stationed at the Suo roadblock.
The detectives responded and intercepted the students leading to the discovery of five bales of cannabis, weighing a total of 23 kilograms.
Further, the detectives shared that upon their apprehension, the two were taken to Busia Police Station pending a trial in court.

“Acting on a tip-off, a vigilant multi-agency team stationed at the Suo roadblock intercepted the bus. A meticulous search ensued, leading to the discovery of five bales of cannabis, weighing a total of 23 kilograms, cleverly concealed in the students’ bags.
“The young suspects were promptly escorted to Busia police station, where they are being processed for their day in court,” DCI revealed.

Foreigners Arrested
The arrests came a day after undercover detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) apprehended a drug trafficker disguising herself as a normal passenger on August 1.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in a statement on Thursday, August 1 stated that the officers recovered 1080 grams of cocaine in the operation.
Bioma Alice Gbassay, a Sierra Leone citizen, was travelling to Mumbai through Kenya when she was arrested at JKIA.
Upon a search of her body and luggage, the Anti-narcotics officers recovered suspected narcotic drugs hidden in various places including her underwear.
