The National Government has unveiled a KSh60.9 billion-plus portfolio of projects across Homa Bay County, with roads, transport, and aviation infrastructure forming a major part of the investments aimed at transforming a region long associated with historical marginalization.

Under the agenda “From Marginalized… To Progress,” in the Homa Bay County Priority Projects & Programs Report dated September 12, the government has listed more than 94 priority projects across all eight constituencies.

Among the ongoing government investments are major road upgrades, improvements to Homa Bay Pier, and the expansion and modernization of Kabunde Airstrip.

Homa Bay constituencies under upgrade include Karachuonyo, Kabondo, Kasipul, Rangwe, Homa Bay Town, Ndhiwa, Gwassi and Mbita.

Homa Bay Investments

According to the government, eight major road projects covering 237 kilometers are currently under construction across Homa Bay County.

Additionally, the Agolomuok–Otati–Kogore (Aorachuodho) Road is undergoing a 23-kilometer bitumen upgrade with more than KSh2 billion in investment.

Other projects include the 18-kilometer Nyarach–Nyaburi–Oboke–Rangwe Road, allocated KSh983.7 million.

Implementation of the 18-kilometer Karabok–Adiedo Road has received more than KSh925.5 million. The Government has also allocated KSh787.5 million to the 10-kilometer Njeri–Oriwo–Border–Pala Road.

The program also extends to the 17-kilometer Tonga–Kisaku–Osiri route, valued at KSh1.4 billion.

Additionally, the 67-kilometer Kadel–Alara–Pala–Kanyadhiang–Kilusi–Opanga–Ramba network will receive a KSh3.9 billion allocation for the upgrades.

The report details the largest project as the 74-kilometer Mbita–Sindo–Kiabuya–Sori Road, with an estimated cost of KSh2.9 billion, while the 10-kilometer Wahamblia–Nyalkiny–Imbo Road rounds off the list, with the project valued at more than KSh990.5 million.

Beyond the major road upgrades, the Government is also undertaking the three-kilometer Got Rabuor–Homa Bay Pier Phase 2 project.

It involves full carriage-capacity enhancement at a cost of more than KSh 428.7 million.

Five kilometers of the B3 road realignment will be completed at the airstrip at a cost of more than KSh1.3 billion under the transformation agenda.

According to the report, the runway will increase by 1.2 to 1.4 kilometers. In addition, the government will resurface the existing 1.2-kilometer section at KSh 216.3 million.
