Students who sat for the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) can access their results through an online portal.
The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) on Monday, January 8 announced that the results can be accessed through a link provided on their website.
KNEC explained that the candidates will be required to enter their index number and name(s) they registered with.
“Individual 2023 KCSE candidates’ examination results will be accessed online through a link on the KNEC Website or directly through the URL: https://results.knec.ac.ke. You will be required to enter the candidate’s index number and the name (s) as per the registration data for the 2023 KCSE examination,” said KNEC.
The results will be available immediately after release.
Machogu said website and the whole is working and free from the inconveniences experinced while using the SMS system.
“As I told you last time, we do not have a service provider so the SMS system we are not going to have that, but we have a system in place that people will be able to access the results immediately after this,” said Machogu.
Also, he directed candidates to collect their provisional results from their respective schools.
The Council will disperse the 2023 KCSE examination results to sub-county education offices for distribution to examination centres within their region,” he added.
New Results Website
Normally, candidates access their results through an SMS code or the KNEC website after the official announcements.
Here, candidates send their index number, followed by the initial KCPE/KCSE (in capital letters) to a code provided to access the results.
In December, Machogu hinted that the ministry was planning to launch a website where the national examination results can be accessed.
The CS said the website will replace the SMS code and allow candidates to check their results free of charge.

Besides, Machogu said the challenges experienced in accessing the KCPE results were unavoidable and will be prevented in future.
“Moving forward when we release the KCSE results, we shall not be able to make use of the same service provider. I am already engaging the ICT to see if we can develop a website,” said Machogu.
However, the CS explained that the schools’ platforms will continue to work.
KCSE Grading System
This is the first cohort that has benefited from the new grading system unveiled in September 2023.
The candidates’ grades were computed using two compulsory subjects, mathematics and one language.
In addition, the examiners included grades scored in five other best performed subjects.
“There will only be two mandatory subjects that will be required for the purposes of computing these grades,” Machogu stated.

Furthermore, CS Machogu said the decision was to increase the rate of graduates transitioning into universities and technical institutions.
“The new reform measure will increase the number of students qualifying for universities, diploma and TVET training,” he added.
Under the previous system, the mean grade of KCSE candidates was computed using the grades scored in English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, two sciences and a humanity subject.
According to Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang, the change will help to avoid cases where candidates are prevented from pursuing their dream courses due to low grades in unrelated subjects.
