President William Ruto has said that he is unapologetic about his association with the church.
Speaking at the AIC Fellowship Annex in Eldoret on Sunday, March 9, the head of state said that Kenya is a Christian nation and that he would not shy away from supporting religious institutions.

The president further stated that he believes in God’s grace as a transformative force in the country.
“This country is a Christian nation that worships the Lord. And we are not ashamed to be identified as Christians. We are unafraid, unashamed and unapologetic about our faith in God. I believe that the grace of God is enough to transform this country. I am a witness of God’s faithfulness in this country,” he said.

According to Ruto, the devil is influencing Kenyans who are pushing back on his work of building churches in the country.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the pushback from the people who don’t believe in God, who don’t believe that we should be building churches, who don’t believe that we should be supporting the work of God, I want to say that in this nation, God will be known,” added Ruto.

Ruto on God Helping the Country
At the same time, the president said that God had helped the country grow to levels that had never been seen before.
Therefore, he would continue worshipping God and supporting churches in Kenya.
“Those who know their God will be strong. I want to say that in this nation, God will be known, and we will do great exploits. I believe that the grace of God is enough to transform this country. I am a witness of God’s faithfulness in this country,” he added.
Moreover, Ruto called out Kenyans speaking against him online, adding that “the gates of hell shall not prevail against Kenya.”
“Those against the building of churches in Kenya will fail. That is my conviction,” he said.
He then proceeded to promise to give his contribution to the church to help them complete the construction of the church before December 2025.
“I was in Jesus Winners last week, and the people there are wonderful. I hear you made some contributions last week here in this church for the construction.
“Take that amount, double it, and give me the invoice. I will send you that money,” he ordered, while addressing the church leadership.

Ruto’s remarks come at a time when he has faced public scrutiny over his generous financial contributions to churches, with critics questioning the source of these funds.
Recently, his donation of Ksh20 million to Jesus Winners Ministry sparked protests from a section of Kenyan youth, some of whom were arrested at the church on Sunday, March 9, morning while demonstrating against what they described as misuse of public funds.
The issue of the president dishing out millions to religious institutions has been contentious with concerned Kenyans and civil society groups accusing him of using churches for political influence.
Earlier on March 5, a group of concerned Kenyans demanded the surrender of Ksh20 million donated to Bishop Edward Mwai of Jesus Winner Ministry, saying that they will begin prosecution against him should he decide to keep the money.
