Kenyan actress and media personality Jacky Vike also known as Awinja on Tuesday, December 12, lit up the mood at State House when she stepped forward to receive the OGW (Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya) award.
The actress was among a pool of celebrities selected for the awards due to various accomplishments in their domains.
In the event that took place in the afternoon- guests comprising celebrities, legislators and athletes were dressed in their suits and vitenges to match the expectations of such a moment and day.
However, when it was Awinja’s turn to be conferred with the award, she stepped forward dressed in her trademark pink dress, a turban covering her head and her usually conspicuous green under skirt.
Her appearance and demeanor while receiving the awards left guests and dignitaries in stitches as they watched her rise to the podium.
Not even President William Ruto who was conferring the awards could hold back his smile at Awinja’s demeanor and dress code.
Awinja dedicates award to fans
In a subsequent statement, Awinja expressed her delight in having received the honor. She also expressed her gratitude to her fans whom she noted have always been supportive for her content.
“Today I was honored to be awarded the title (Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya) from his excellency the president,” she said.
‘I am truly humbled and grateful, thank you all for always supporting my content.”
Celebrities and Kenyans in general also joined the bandwagon to congratulate Awinja for her fete.
The award was a continuation of her ostensible ring profile and career in the realm of entertainment.
After breaking to the limelight through her role in Citizen TV’s Papa Shirandula show, Awinja morphed into the new era of digital entertainment and influencing.
Ruto awards other celebrities
In addition to Jacky Vike, President Ruto also conferred the Order of the Grand Warrior award to Kenyan actress Catherin Kamau, popularly known as Cate Actress.

Kenyan footballer Michael Olunga was also awarded with the Head of State Commendation (HSC) award while 100 meters African Champion Ferdinand Omanyala received the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS).
The awards came even as President William Ruto reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting youth in the creative industry.

Later in the day, the President watched the Talanta Hela National under-19 Inter-County Football Tournament finals at the Nyao National Stadium.
The match was a culmination of a football tournament organized in line with the Talanta Hela Initiative which seeks to monetize talent and uplift livelihoods.
