The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has published a weather outlook for the period between June 17 to 23, 2025.
In a forecast released on June 17, Kenya Met said rainfall is expected to persist in the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Coast, and Western Kenya and some parts of the South-eastern Lowlands and North-western Kenya.
North-eastern and North-western parts are more likely to experience average daytime temperatures above 30°C.
As per the outlook, chilly nights below 10°C are forecast in some areas, including parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Strong winds alert by Kenya Met
In addition, Kenya Met predicted that strong winds of above 25 knots (12.86 m/s) from the south to southeast will affect the Coast and Kenya’s territorial waters, South-eastern lowlands, North-eastern and North-western Kenya.
The forecast department further warned of generally dry and sunny conditions for several parts of the country in June.
However, some regions are expected to experience above-normal cumulative rainfall.
This includes the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, Central Rift Valley, parts of the Southern Rift Valley, parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley (Nyandarua) and parts of Northwestern.
“This rainfall may occasionally extend eastwards into other parts of the Highland’s east of the Rift Valley and Nairobi County. The Coastal zone is likely to receive near-normal rainfall totals,” Kenya’s Meteorological Department said.
Nairobi and Central Highlands
Nairobi and the Central highlands are expected to experience mostly cool, cloudy (overcast) conditions with intermittent light morning rains or drizzles.
Additionally, there is a likelihood of occasional afternoon and evening showers.
Daytime temperatures may drop below 18°C on some days due to overcast skies.
Daily highs in Nairobi are expected to range from 22–24°C (72–76°F), with frequent showers, especially late in the day, and potential for thunderstorms around June 22.
Coastal and Semi-Arid Areas
According to the forecast, strong winds and large waves with southerly winds of over 25 knots and wave heights up to 2.8 meters are expected over the Coast region and Kenya’s territorial waters, south-eastern lowlands, and the North-eastern and North-western Kenya.
