The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released a seven-day weather forecast for the period between January 1 and January 6, 2025. Kenya Met published the weather outlook against the backdrop of reduced rainfall observed in several parts of the country.
According to the forecast, sunny and dry weather conditions are expected to prevail over most parts of the country with occasional light showers in certain areas.
However, occasional rainfall may be experienced over the Coastal region and isolated areas over the South-eastern lowlands and Highlands East of the Rift Valley.
Average daytime (maximum) temperatures of more than 30°C will be experienced over the Coast, North-eastern, North-western Kenya and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, South Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin and Southeastern lowlands.
At the same time, average night-time (minimum) temperatures will be less than 10°C in some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, Central and South Rift Valley and Southeastern lowlands.
Kenya Met List Regions to Remain Dry
In the Lake Victoria Basin, Central and South Rift Valley, and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, sunny intervals are expected during the day.
Counties in these regions are Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, and Narok.

In the North Rift Valley and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, including Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Baringo, and West Pokot counties, sunny intervals are predicted to prevail throughout the day.
Nights in these counties are likely to be partly cloudy.
Meanwhile, in North-western Kenya, covering areas like Turkana and Samburu counties, similar weather conditions will prevail, with sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy nights.
The Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Laikipia, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Nairobi Counties, will also experience mainly sunny intervals.
Although a few areas around Mt. Kenya may see occasional light to moderate afternoon showers. Nights will be partly cloudy.
Similarly, North-eastern Kenya, encompassing Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, is expected to experience sunny intervals during the day, with partly cloudy nights.

Region to Experience Afternoon Showers
However, regions in Southwestern Kenya, particularly in the South Rift Valley, may experience light to moderate showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.
Nights will be partly cloudy, though Narok and Migori counties may see occasional light showers.
In the South-eastern lowlands, which include Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita-Taveta, and parts of Tana-River County, the weather will largely be characterized by sunny intervals throughout the day.
However, a few areas may experience light afternoon showers, especially during the first half of the forecast period. Nights will be partly cloudy.
Additionally, Kenya Met, announced that the Coast region, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and coastal parts of Tana-River County, will experience sunny intervals in the mornings.
However, the department cautioned that some areas may experience occasional showers, particularly in the afternoons.
The forecast also indicated that nights will be partly cloudy, with a slight chance of showers over the South Coast during the early part of the forecast period.
Day time temperatures in these regions will be ranging between 32°C and 33 °C.
