Weatherman Warns of More Rainfall

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that more rainfall is set to continue in some parts of the country.

In a forecast published on December 20, 2024, the meteorological department specified the areas that will continue to receive rainfall, accompanied by storms.

“Rainfall will continue over the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and South Rift Valley, the Southeastern Lowlands, and the Coast,” stated the weatherman.

According to the forecast, these rains will be accompanied by storms while some areas will experience heavy rainfall.

North-Eastern and North-Western to remain sunny and dry

The weatherman has also stated that parts of North-Eastern and North-Western Kenya will generally remain sunny and dry, although occasional rains are possible.

Kenya Met added that parts of Turkana and Marsabit will experience strong winds.

On December 19, 2023, the Director of Meteorological Services David Gikungu stated that heavy rains should be expected between December 19 and December 23, 204.

He stated that the rain is expected in Western Kenya, Central Highlands, Nairobi, Lake Victoria Basin, Central & South Rift Valley, Southeastern Lowlands, and the Coast.

In the five-day weather forecast, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley will experience rains over a few places in the mornings with showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and nights.

The specific areas include Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot.

Rainfall in Nairobi and environs

The minimum temperature will be 09°C but this will rise up to 30°C.

For Nairobi and its environs, the weatherman indicated that the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka and Counties will experience rain over few places in the mornings.

Similarly, there will be showers over few places in the afternoons with thunderstorms over few places on December 19.

The night will be partly cloudy on December 19 with showers over a few places for the remaining days, while the temperature will range between 07°C and 29°C.
