The company reiterated that its contact centre would be temporarily unavailable by telephone while the maintenance was underway.

In a notice issued on Saturday, October 3, the company said its customer care account, @KenyaPower_Care, had been accessed without authorisation and that efforts to recover control were underway.
“Our customer care account on X, @KenyaPower_Care, has experienced unauthorised access and the recovery process is currently underway,” the notice read.
The utility also warned customers that it would not request sensitive information, including PINs, bank details or mobile money information, when handling complaints.

The warning followed a series of unusual posts on the account that had no apparent connection to Kenya Power’s electricity services, customer complaints or power outage updates typically shared on the page.
Some of the posts appeared to promote a cryptocurrency-related service, with one directing users to an allocation checker and claiming to provide information on claims.
The account linked to the posts described itself as a platform offering trading in cryptocurrencies, commodities, indices and foreign exchange.
Kenya Power later regained control of the account and deleted the cryptocurrency-related posts.
