Kenya Power has warned customers not to engage with content posted on its customer care X account after unauthorized parties gained access to the platform.

In a customer alert issued on Saturday, October 3, the utility company confirmed that unauthorized parties accessed the @KenyaPower_Care account and said efforts to recover it were ongoing.

The account, which has more than 1.6 million followers, is used by customers to report power outages, make inquiries and seek assistance. Kenya Power’s website also lists the account as a customer service channel.

“Our customer care account on X, @KenyaPower_Care, has experienced unauthorized access and the recovery process is currently underway,” Kenya Power stated.

The company urged customers and members of the public not to interact with posts published on the account, respond to direct messages or follow any instructions shared through the platform until further notice.

“Customers and members of the public are advised NOT TO ENGAGE with any content posted on the account. Please DO NOT respond to any messages sent or take instructions issued through the account until further notice,” the notice added.

Cryptocurrency Posts Appear on Kenya Power Account

The warning followed a series of unusual posts on the account, with content unrelated to Kenya Power’s electricity services, customer complaints, or power outage updates.

A spot check by the Kenya Times found cryptocurrency-related messages on the account, including posts promoting the “$HYPE Season 2” claims.

One post announced that an allocation checker was live and claimed that eligible wallets could view their tier and estimated allocation before claims opened.

Another post repeatedly referred to “SEAMLESS” and “$HYPE” and also mentioned Season 1 points and activity recorded after the November 2024 genesis.

The account linked to the cryptocurrency posts described itself as a platform offering trading in crypto, commodities, indices and foreign exchange.

The posts were unrelated to Kenya Power’s electricity services and instead directed users to cryptocurrency-related information.

Account Now Appears Unavailable

As of Saturday, October 3, the @KenyaPower_Care account appears to be unavailable on X, following the unauthorized access reported by Kenya Power.

The utility company has directed customers seeking assistance to its verified communication channels, including its main X account, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, the *977# USSD service, and the myPower mobile application.

Kenya Power’s official customer service page confirms that customers can use *977#, the myPower app, and its national contact center for services and support.

The company said it would provide an update once the issue is resolved and thanked customers for their vigilance and understanding.
