Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the vandalism and collapse of Transmission Tower No. 1052 on the Naivasha–Juja 132kV double-circuit power line.
The arrests followed a joint intelligence-led operation by Kenya Power’s security team and police in Mai Mahiu.
Searches at the suspects’ homes recovered tower bracing components, spanners, hacksaw blades, and other tools allegedly used in the vandalism.
“Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the vandalism and collapse of Transmission Tower No. 1052 on the Naivasha–Juja 132kV double-circuit line, following a joint operation by Kenya Power’s Security Team and police,” Kenya Power stated.
Kenya Power Suspects Lead Investigators to Wider Vandalism Network
According to Kenya Power, the suspects admitted involvement and provided information on other suspected vandalism networks and buyers of stolen materials operating in Nairobi, Kiambu and neighboring counties.
The two suspects remain in custody pending arraignment as investigations continue to identify and arrest other people allegedly involved in the network.
Kenya Power said it is working with police to protect electricity infrastructure and prosecute those involved in vandalism.
The utility also urged members of the public to report suspicious activity around electricity installations to the nearest police station or Kenya Power.

The company also urged customers and the public to report suspected malpractice through its confidential whistleblowing channel.
“We thank members of the public whose tips continue to help us track down those vandalizing electricity infrastructure. Report suspicious activity near electricity installations to the nearest police station or Kenya Power.”
Naivasha–Juja Transmission Tower Vandalism
In a statement on September 20, 2026, Kenya Power said vandalism caused the collapse of a transmission tower along the Naivasha–Juja 132kV double-circuit line, disrupting electricity supply through the Ruaraka Substation.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:00 a.m., according to the utility, which said its teams immediately rerouted power through alternative substations. The company said it restored electricity supply to all affected customers by 4:30 a.m.

Items recovered at the scene indicated that the suspected vandals were present when the tower collapsed, the utility said.
Kenya Power said vandalism has become a major threat to the reliability and sustainability of the country’s electricity network.
The utility said the rising incidents highlight the need for stronger and coordinated measures to protect critical electricity infrastructure and investments in the power network.
It urged customers and members of the public to help protect electricity installations in their communities by reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or Kenya Power.
