Kenya Railways has announced changes in payment of various services in line with the government policy requiring all government services to adopt a unified payment system through the e-Citizen.
In a notice published on Tuesday, January 16, Kenya Railways said payment for the various services including cargo transport and commuter train will be made through the new system.
“We hereby notify members of the public that payments for all services shall only be made through the e-citizen platform in line with the Presidential directive,” the notice read in part.
To pay for the Meter Gauge Railway (MGR) freight services under the ecitizen, one will be required to log on to the https://krs.e.ctizen.go.ke.
Then select Freight Service Invoice Generator (apply now) and later enter the invoice number or range and amount.
After that, proceed to choose your preferred payment method. Then download the receipt and share it with KRC team.
Kenya Railways Commuter services
For commuter services, customers traveling in both long distance and town commuter lines will pay for their tickets at the station of departure.
To pay for the tickets, customers will use paybill number 222222 followed by an account number consisting of the letters “KRCC”, a hyphen (-) and “your name”.
You will then enter the amount and PIN to complete the transaction.
How to pay for Terminal Services
To pay for services in the various terminals, customers in the Nairobi will use the paybill number 222222 followed by account number consisting of “NRKP” a hyphen (-) and the “BTS Number”, “NRKP-“BTS Number”.
You will then enter the amount and PIN number to complete the transaction.
Those seeking to pay for terminal services at the Malaba Terminal will follow the same steps but with a different account number consisting of letters “MALT-“BTS Number”, while those at the Makongeni Terminal will use “MKTM-BTS Number”.
Real Estate
For persons seeking to pay rent for property owned by Kenya Railways, Dial USSD Code *222# and Select Make Payments Option.

Then enter KRC123 as the service code and enter serial number (say xxxx) as the KRC Real Estate Reference. You will later enter the amount and the PIN to complete the transaction.

How to pay for Kenya Railways Restaurant Services
People paying for outside catering will also use the consolidated payment system, through paybill number 222222.

After keying in the paybill number, enter Account Number in the form of: KRRC – “First name” followed by the amount and PIN.
To for meals, go to Paybill: 222 222 and enter Account Number with the format: NRBR- “First name”.
The announcement came months after President William Ruto unveiled a consolidated system where members of the public would pay for services offered by government agencies and institutions.
