Kenyan Company Becomes First in Africa to Have Prestigious U.S Certification

Cold Solutions Kenya Limited has made history by becoming the only cold chain facility in Africa to be awarded the prestigious LEED Gold (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.

The Tatu City-based company was awarded the certification from the US Green Building Council (USGBC).

Cold Solutions earned the certification in the Gold category just two years after its establishment. It is the second topmost cluster in the certification criteria.

The LEED Gold certification, one of the most respected global benchmarks for green buildings, assesses facilities on energy efficiency, sustainable design, indoor environmental quality, and resource management.

Therefore, the award highlights the company’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and environmental responsibility in temperature-controlled storage and logistics.

This means that it is safe for human well-being, reduces environmental impact and is energy efficient.

Azhar Rifai, Co-head of Cold Chain Strategy at ARCH Emerging Partners, the investment firm funding Cold Solutions operations in East Africa said “We are extremely excited to be awarded this prestigious certification.

“Being the only temperature-controlled warehouse in Africa to achieve this status is a vote of confidence in our business.”

Moreover, the recognition reflects a commitment to environmental stewardship, innovation, and superior energy efficiency in cold storage solutions.
