Kimani Ichung’wah Will be Raila’s Chief Agent in Addis Ababa-Kindiki

Deputy President (DP) Kithure Kindiki has revealed that Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah will be Raila Odinga’s chief agent in the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship election in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Speaking on January 23, Kindiki said Ichung’wah will be sent to Addis Ababa one week early and leave after Raila is sworn in as the next AUC chairman.

“Raila’s chief agent in Addis Ababa will be Ichung’wah. We will send him one before to go to ensure things are good. He will leave one week after our candidate is sworn in,” he added.

Kindiki said the broad-based approach has helped the government realize the importance of working together.

Kindiki Defends Broad-Based Govt

Kindiki said President William Ruto will be the first person to vote for Raila in his AUC race.

Afterwards, he said Ruto has demonstrated unity by mobilizing other head of states to vote for Kenya’s candidate.

“Even if Raila wanted to AUC Chairman after the election results and we brought problems it could be a lose-lose situation. Raila and Kenya could have lost. But because of patriotism and loving country more that self, this broad-based approach is helping us realize a very important objective,” Kindiki said.

He urged leaders to start communicating the broad-development agenda for Kenya regardless of the political parties.

Kindiki explained that all the leaders are ambassadors of the broad-based government.

“Most of the problems we have with the people is because they don’t know what is happening. They end being misled by people who are out of the country,” he said.

Mudavadi Calls Out Kenyans Opposing Raila’s AUC Bid

Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi recently questioned why some Kenyans are against Raila’s AUC chairmanship bid.

He expressed concerns that a section of Kenyans on social media are asking other head of states not to vote for Raila.

“Why would someone not wish for a Kenyan to succeed in a continental role that we have not secured in decades? Is it jealousy? Is it somebody being petty or is it malice? These are the questions that we ask ourselves,” he said.

Mudavadi wondered why any Kenyan would oppose Raila, emphasizing that this is the country’s first opportunity to chair the Commission.

“Kenya for the first time, has the greatest opportunity, to chair the African Union Commission, which we have never ever chaired. Why would a Kenyan be bitter, that a fellow Kenyan is going to have opportunity of that nature? So that you spend time, trying to send social media messages to various governments in the continent, telling them not to vote for the Kenyan candidate?” he questioned.

The elections will be held on February 2025 during the 38th AU Summit in Addis Ababa.
