The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has rejected President William Ruto’s Cabinet Secretary (CS) nominee for Education Julius Migosi Ogamba.
President Ruto nominated Ogamba, who is a lawyer, to succeed former CS Ezekiel Machogu on Friday 19th July 2024 after he dissolved his cabinet following immense pressure from Gen Z.
KNUT’s National Vice chairman Aggrey Namisi explained that the docket needs an educationist and not a lawyer to help solve the issues it is facing currently.
“As KNUT we have reservations with Julius Migosi as Education CS nominee. He knows law not education. I thought he would have put people he was not going to have to induct,” Namisi stated.

The Union leaders praised late education CS Prof. George Magoha stating that he was the most suitable person to lead the docket under the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).
“When Magoha left he went with the password of CBC. We now need a person with a common password to help our children transit. It requires a person who understands the model,” he expressed.
Likewise, they added that it would take a lot of time for the Julius Migos to catch up with the transition happening.

Further, the union stated that Ruto should have nominated the CSs based on their professionalism to avoid allocating them with advisors.
They expressed their disappointment stating that Ogamba had been politically associated with Machogu as his running mate during the 2022 general election.

“This was the running mate of the former minister, and we feel like it will be the same minister who will be there on behalf of the previous one,” stated the union.
Ogamba’s Career
