The Supreme Court has ruled that the Ksh. 500 billion contract between Kenya and China for the construction of the Standard Gauge Railways (SGR) was legal and transparent.
In a unanimous decision made on Friday, June 16, the five apex court judges acknowledged that the execution of the multi-billion SGR project did not violate any procurement laws.
As such, the supreme court put a side a previous ruling by the Court of Appeal, which had deemed the procurement process flawed.

“The procurement process for the Standard Gauge Railway project was undertaken in conformity with the provisions of Article 227 of the Constitution,” the apex Judges ruled.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his then Deputy President William Ruto, signed and supervised the SGR project during their first term in office in the year 2013.
