NCBA Group has appointed, Kathryne Maundu an advocate of the High Court of Kenya as Company Secretary.
The Group Managing Director John Gachora confirmed her appointment pending regulatory clearance.
“The Board of NCBA Group PLC is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Kathryne Maundu as Group Company Secretary in accordance with the provisions of the Companies Act and following receipt of regulatory approval from the Capital Markets Authority and pending approval from the Central Bank of Kenya,” Gachora said.
In this capacity, Kathryne will serve as the company secretary for NCBA Group PLC and all Kenyan subsidiaries.
Her appointment follows the resignation of Waweru Mathenge, who left NCBA Group to pursue private interests.
Kathryne Maundu Journey as Company Secretary
Before her appointment, Maundu served as a company secretary in four companies listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), including Safaricom, BAT Kenya, East African Breweries and Eaagads Limited.
In 2016, Kathryne joined telecommunications company, Safaricom, as the company secretary and later resigned from the Tele Company on September 29, 2023.
Further, on June 27, 2020, the Board of Directors at British American Tobacco (BAT) Kenya appointed the lawyer as the firm’s company secretary. Consequently, she quit the job in October 2023.
Other jobs that she quit in October 2023 as a company secretary position at Eaagads Limited where she joined in 2019 and East African Breweries Limited which she joined in 2020.

Other Roles she Held
Ms. Maundu previously worked at Deloitte in the East African countries of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, guiding local and multinational companies and their boards in discharging their statutory and corporate governance mandate.
She later rose from an associate in 2004 to a consultant then assistant manager and manager before exiting nine years later as a senior manager to be a partner at Stamford Corporate Services LLP.
The lawyer worked as a partner at Stamford Corporate Services LLP which is part of Bowmans Coulson Harney LLP, between January 2019 and October 2023, offering the services of an outsourced company secretary to entities in diverse sectors.
In her capacity Ms. Maundu served over 250 companies as a secretary over the years, giving her privileged access to thousands of key conversations in the boardrooms of multiple sectors of the economy.

Maundu’s Education
Kathryne Maundu is a practicing Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a practicing Certified Public Secretary and a serving Council Member of the Institute of Certified Secretaries – Kenya.
She is also a member of the Women on Boards Network and an Independent Director on the Board of the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya.
Maundu is a seasoned professional with over 19 years of progressive experience in both the Private and Public Service Sectors.
She holds a Post Graduate Certificate in International Business Law from the University of London, Bachelor of Laws (LLB-Hons) from the University of Nairobi, and a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law together with other certifications and accreditations.
