Raimond Molenje; Kenya Bankers Association Acting CEO

The Kenya Bankers Association (KBA) has appointed Raimond Molenje as the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective April 1, 2024.

This comes after the KBA governing council announced the retirement of its CEO Dr Habil Olaka which will be effective March 31, 2024.

Molenje joined Kenya Bankers Association in 2018 and has 19 years of experience in legal and regulatory practice, human capital and policy advocacy having held senior management roles in leading business member organizations.

Until his appointment, Raimond served as the Director, Legal, Human Resources and Policy Advocacy at the institution holding the position from 2021.

During his tenure in the role, Molenje was responsible for Legal Affairs, Human Resources and Compliance.

He also spearheaded Coordination of Human Resources and Ethics Committee and the Legal Affairs and Compliance Committee of KBA.

In addition, he administered Secretarial function to KBA’s Governing Council and the General Body. Still at his capacity, Molenje  offered Legal and HR Advisory and Support to Members.

Education Background 

Raimond Molenje  is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, Commissioner for Oaths and Notary Public.

He is also a member of both the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM).

Furthermore, the new KBA CEO in acting capacity holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL. B) degree from the University of Nairobi, and Postgraduate Diplomas in Law from the Kenya School of Law

From 2000- 2004 he attended University of Nairobi where he pursued in Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)

Afterwards he joined Kenya School of Law Kenya School of Law from 2005 to 2006 where he attained Diploma in Law.

Molenje has a high merit grade in International Human Resource Management from Cambridge International College, in the UK where he studied from 2016 to 2017.

Molenje Career

His many years of experience has seen him work with leading organizations and corporations including serving as HR Advisor at De La Rue Currency and Security Print, Legal Manager at Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE), HR Manager-Employee Relations at Equity Bank Group among others.

In his various roles, Molenje spearheaded the effective and efficient management of legislative, regulatory and policy matters impacting the industry.

Additionally, he coordinated the collective bargaining agreement negotiations with the Banking Insurance and Finance Union (BIFU) Kenya.

Molenje is a Lecturer at the College of Human Resources Management.

Despite that he is a Board Member with the Auctioneers and Licensing Board under the Attorney General’s Office as well as the Mediation Accreditation Committee of the Judiciary representing the industry.

In advocacy, Raimond Molenje worked with several law firms as a legal counsel and twice as an associate advocate.

He worked with J.A. Abuodha& Company Advocates from Nov 2004 – Jul 2008, Kairu & McCourt Advocates from Aug 2008 – Jan 2010.

At the two law firms he was tasked with conducting successful litigation, legal protection, and risk management.

He also participated in the Preparation, review, modification and management of contracts, agreements, and other documentations among other roles.

Nevertheless, Raimond Molenje comes in stepping into the big shoes of the outgoing CEO Dr. Habil Olaka who spearheaded several groundbreaking industry advocacy, development, and sustainability initiatives on behalf of the banking sector over his 14-year stint as CEO.
