Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia has nominated former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi’s gubernatorial running mate, Linda Kiome, as his Deputy Governor.
Linda Kiome was Linturi’s running mate on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party ticket in the 2022 general elections, where they lost to the impeached governor, Kawira Mwangaza.

The pair finished second behind Mwangaza. The nominated Deputy governor is set to appear before Meru County Assembly members for vetting.
Kiome is a seasoned Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a Commissioner of Oaths. She is also a Senior Partner at Charles Kariuki and Kiome Law Firm.

Profile of Linda Kiome
In February 2025, Kiome was picked to be the Vice Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Boundaries and Commiission (IEBC) selection panel after her appointment by President William Ruto.
The former running mate previously served as the legal advisor to former Governor Kawira Mwangaza before their fallout.

During the impeachment hearing of Kawira Mwangaza, Kiome was a witness for the County Assembly, where she alleged that the ousted governor illegally terminated her contract as Legal Advisor by forging her signature.

Professional Career
Kiome also briefly served as the acting President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) following the exit of then-President Nelson Havi.
In January 2022, the LSK secretariat announced Havi’s exit and named Kiome, who was serving as the Mt Kenya branch chairperson, as his replacement.
The announcement followed a consultative meeting held by the LSK Branch Chairs Caucus, which settled on Kiome as chairperson and Mathew Nyabena as vice-chairperson.

Linda Kiome was also part of the tribunal that was appointed by President William Ruto to investigate the embattled four IEBC Commissioners that included Juliana Cherera, Justus Nyang’aya, Francis Wanderi, and Irine Masit.
The lawyer has also served as a board member of Meru National Polytechnic and Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital.
She is also the daughter to former Meru Municipality Ward representative Kiome Rimbere, who served as the Meru Municipal Council Mayor between 2009 and 2012.
