Social Health Authority (SHA) CEO Mercy Mwangangi has officially gazetted 40 hospitals suspended from the programme for engaging in fraudulent practices, as announced by Health CS Aden Duale.
Her decision followed a directive on Friday, August 8, 2025, by the Health CS, where he stated that the Ministry would publish the names of the suspended hospitals in a Gazette Notice after investigations by the DCI.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 48(6) of the Social Health Insurance Act, 2023, the Social Health Authority gives notice to the public of the suspension of the health facilities set out in the Schedule below.
In accordance with the provisions of the Social Health Insurance Act, the health facilities listed shall not be entitled to any benefit from the Social Health Authority during the period of their suspension,” read part of the Gazette Notice.
SHA CEO Gazettes Hospitals Suspended Over Fraudulent SHA Activities
Among the facilities suspended by the Ministry of Health are Rachuonyo County Hospital in Homa Bay County, Salama Yard Medical Center in Nairobi County, Kotiende Homa Bay Center in Homa Bay, and Vebeneza Medical Centre Tassia in Nairobi.

Additionally, the following hospitals were suspended: The Webuye Hospital Limited in Bungoma, Nyatoto Health Centre in Homa Bay, and Zion Ahadi Mediclinic, Butere in Kakamega County.

Moreover, other suspended hospitals include St. Mark Orthodox Hospital Chavakali in Vihiga, Oasis Doctors Plaza Kakamega Limited in Kakamega County, Tanaja Hospital Limited in Busia County, Brimaka Hospital Limited in Busia, Maxicare Sunrise Ltd Hospital in Bungoma, and Queen Rivers Medical Centre in Homa Bay.
