The Long-Distance Drivers and Conductors Association (LoDDCA) has issued a security alert to Kenyan truckers traveling to South Sudan following the reported killing of a driver along the transit corridor.
LoDDCA said Ahmed Salat was shot dead on August 22, 2026, while transporting cargo to Wau. His turnman was also reportedly assaulted and left in critical condition.
The Association said the incident was part of growing security concerns involving drivers and trucks traveling within South Sudan.
“South Sudan has robbed us of a comrade, a friend, a relative and a family man. Ahmed Salat was shot dead on 22/08/26 while transporting cargo to Wao. His turnman was also badly assaulted and in critical condition,” the association said.
Truckers urged to travel in groups
In the statement, LoDDCA urged drivers, transport companies, and fleet operators to strictly follow the security Standard Operating Procedures agreed in 2021.
Drivers have been advised to travel in convoys rather than alone, maintain contact with convoy leaders, and wait for other trucks at agreed points to reduce the risk of isolated attacks.

The Association also reminded drivers to observe the agreed travel window of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm South Sudan time and avoid unnecessary movements outside those hours.
“As stipulated in the 2021 SOPs, truck movements should take place strictly between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM South Sudan time,” the statement advised.
LODDCA calls for police escorts in high-risk areas
LoDDCA has called for adequate police escorts for truck movements in areas where security cannot be fully assured, particularly in Northern South Sudan.
Drivers have been advised not to navigate high-risk areas without appropriate security protection and urged to report emerging threats immediately to convoy leaders, fleet managers, and relevant security contacts.
The Association also called on South Sudanese security agencies to strengthen patrols along major transit routes and improve the sharing of security intelligence with transporters.

Election period raises security concerns
LoDDCA said the upcoming election period in South Sudan has created additional security concerns that could affect transport corridors and movement across the country.
“With South Sudan entering an election period, there are heightened security concerns that could affect transport corridors and movement across the country. We therefore urge all drivers to remain extremely vigilant, follow the agreed SOPs and avoid taking unnecessary risks.”
The Association called for stronger coordination between security agencies, transport companies and driver representatives to protect truckers moving essential supplies such as food, fuel and medicines.
LoDDCA urged all drivers and transport operators to remain vigilant, follow the agreed travel procedures and avoid unnecessary risks while using the South Sudan corridor
