Professor Makau Mutua has called out Kenya’s Print press for failing to provide enough coverage on the late TikToker Brian Chira’s death news.
In a statement on Thursday, Prof Makau expressed his disappointments with the printing media, noting that it had overlooked Chira’s story despite his influence as a TikToker.
“It’s sad Kenya’s print press has deliberately avoided giving real, deep, and thoughtful coverage to the funeral and phenomenon of Brian Chira,” read the statement in part.
The Law Professor further recognized the late Chira as a man who had big dreams and imparted numerous lessons to Kenyans.

“The young fella was a bundle of the torment of the Kenyan youth as well as its great promise. He taught us many lessons. Shame!” he emphasized.
Chira was a famed Tiktoker who came into the limelight through a viral news video where he was an eyewitness to an accident.
The 28-year-old was killed in a hit and run accident on March 16, 2024 at around 3 am.
According to a Police report, the accident occurred on the Ndenderu-Ruaka Road in Kiambu county.

The tragedy happened while he was on his way home in the company of a friend who bumped into him while heavily drunk outside a club.
Witness Narrations
According to the friend’s narration, Chira asked for help from him as he had been chased out of the entertaining joint for allegedly causing chaos.
“I arrived and found Brian Chira being ejected from the club because they were closing. Seeing him in that state, I knew it was Brian,” revealed his friend.
“He was on the ground clearly intoxicated. He asked for my help. I agreed and he got on the bike behind me.”
Content creators fundraised over 7 million through TikTok live that was used for burial and also supporting the deceased’s grandmother.

Additionally, they held a memorial service and tribute ceremony to celebrate his life at Rainbow Resort in Ruiru over the weekend.
He was buried on Tuesday, March 26, at his grandmother’s home in Githunguri, Kiambu county with TikTokers and celebrities like Otile Brown and Mumias East legislator Peter Salasya in attendance.
According to his grandmother’s wish, the late Chira was buried in a graduation gown.
