A middle-aged youth from Nyabigonkoru, South Mugirango, Kisii County, died after sustaining injuries in the Kisii and Trans Mara border conflict, which has lasted for a week now.
The man, named Ronald Okemwa Sokoine, passed away while receiving treatment at a private clinic in Kenyenya Sub County.

The violence began after a cow was stolen but later found and returned to its owner.
Despite efforts to restore peace, two people had already died, and at least 20 others were hospitalized.

Citizen TV journalist Stephen Letoo chaired a peace meeting with youth from the Bomachoge Borabu and Kilgoris constituencies on March 6 to stop the bloodshed, but it did not bear fruit.
The conflict has worsened, leading to the burning of sugarcane farms in Maasai land, causing heavy losses.

Letoo expressed concern, saying, “The Maasai-Kisii communities are fighting again, even after peace talks.”
He urged government and security agencies to intervene.

Speaking on Saturday, March 8, South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro said he had liaised with the Ministry of Interior to deploy police in the area to enhance security in both sections
“Within this week, the Interior Ministry and political leaders, together with relevant constitutional bodies, will be on the ground for an amicable way forward that we hope will end the bad blood between the two communities that must learn to live together,” he said.
The situation worsened at Mapashi and Nyagenke, the border between Kisii and Transmara, for more than five hours on Saturday.

Separate hundreds of youths with spears and pangas confronted each other, forcing the police officers from the Rapid deployment unit to deploy tear gas to control the situation.
Deputy commissioner Kenyenya sub county William Bett said they are expecting security officers to enhance peace and ensure stability.
Some of the residents are saying they are not aware of the major cause of the conflicts despite peaceful talks
The affected include Magenche, Nyabitunwa, Kiango, Mapashi, and Shankope.

Residents Call for Peace
Bonivace Ongaro, a witness of the ongoing incident, has condemned the current situation, stating that God will always be in control.
“God should let the blood of our youth go in vain. Very soon, God will show mercy on His innocent souls,” he said.
Residents are now calling on leaders from both Kisii and Narok counties to step in and restore peace.
So far, three people have died, while at least 20 others have been injured.
