Mediheal Hospital and Fertility Centre has responded to reports by German media outlets Der Spiegel, ZDF, and DW that it has a role in an alleged international organ trafficking network.
In a media interview, Mediheal Group of Hospitals Vice President Maryline Limo dismissed allegations that transplants performed at the facility are not conducted procedurally.

“Mediheal Group of Hospitals wishes to categorically state that all transplant procedures carried out at the facilities strictly adhere to the legal procedures of the hospital,” Limo said.
Limo explained that patients seeking transplants come with their donors, adding that the hospital is not involved in the sourcing, as has been claimed.

“We would also like to make it clear that the patients are coming with their donors to the facility. The facility is not involved in sourcing and selection of donors to the facility,” she said.
“So, the clients come themselves to the hospital, and the procedures are being followed accordingly.”

Mediheal Hospital Dismisses Claims of Getting Money from Donors
The report identified Mediheal Hospital as a key site for transplant procedures, revealing that recipients paid up to $200,000 (Ksh25.9 million) for a single kidney transplant.
However, Limo dismissed these claims affirming that the Hospital does not receive money from the donors.
She said the legal procedures are followed, and the formal affidavits are signed by the donor with no financial inducement.
Limo clarified that the hospital only receives funds for the service rendered and is not part of any money exchange scheme.
“I would like to state that MediHeal Hospital is not part and parcel of this money. The money that the facility receives is for the services which are rendered to the client. So, this issue of money has been exchanged with MediHeal. They are not part and parcel of it,” she said.

Patients & Procedure
According to Limo, Mediheal Hospital receives international and local patients directly or through outpatient.
The patients go through the physician where investigations are conducted.
She stated that the patients are referred to the nephrologist if they are having a renal problem.
“The nephrologist will do an investigation that is from outpatient. The patient will do the investigation. If he is having kidney failure, the counselling will be done to this client. He will be requested to start to bring the possible donor, the willing donor,” she said.
Limo said the patients who visit Mediheal hospital undergo a normal transplant procedure just like in any other hospital.
