Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has announced that she is joining the United Democratic Alliance Party (UDA).
In a statement on April 3, the party confirmed that the Meru governor who had vied for her political seat as an independent candidate, will be supporting the party activities.
The party officials received her to the team alongside other leaders including MCAs, women leaders and religious leaders.
According to the governor, the move will help better the county of Meru as well as ensure that the leaders in the county lead a united front.
“It is my hope and desire that we, leaders of the esteemed people of Meru, will seize this opportunity to lead a united front in our quest to deliver respective mandates and betterment of the County as a whole,” she stated.

Malala and Mbarire Welcome the Meru Governor
UDA party Secretary General Cleophas Malala added that the Governor will vie for the gubernatorial position in 2027 on the party ticket.
At the same time, Embu Governor and Chairperson of the UDA Party Cecily Mbarire embraced Mwangaza’s move stating that the party will support her even in ending the woes in Meru County.
“I take this opportunity as the UDA Chair, and a neighbor of Meru County, to state that the to heal Meru County is now here,” stated Cecily Mbarire.

Ruto and Gachagua Lead UDA Meeting
The move came following a UDA party official meeting on Tuesday, April 2, led by the party leader President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua.
The meeting was convened to discuss the party’s grassroots elections that will be held in four phases, starting April 26.
Additionally, the party picked Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) chairperson Anthony Mwaura to lead a seven-member National Elections Board.
UDA announced that phase one of the elections will be conducted in seven counties including Nairobi, Narok, West-Pokot, Busia, Homabay, Isiolo, and Garrissa.
Further, phase two of the elections set for June 22, will include 13 counties including Mombasa, Uasin Gishu, Nyandarua and Machakos among others.
Phase three of the exercise will take place on August 10 and will cover 15 counties including Kiambu, Embu and Kericho among others, while phase 4 set for August 24 will cover Nyeri, Nakuru, Bomet, Kirinyaga among other counties.
