Inclusive National Justice, Economic and Civic Transformation (INJECT) party leader Morara Kebaso has been charged before the Milimani Law Courts following his arrest on Monday, September 30, 2024.

During the court proceedings, the prosecution preferred several charges against the lawyer turned activist including cyber harassment contrary to Section 27 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act.

In a charge sheet seen by The Kenya Times the prosecution argues that on September 28, 2024, Morara Kebaso alongside his accomplices allegedly posted false information about David Langat.

“David Morara Kebaso Alias Morara Kebaso Senior: On the 28th day of September 2024 at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, jointly with others not before court, while using the X Corp Account dubbed; MoraraKebasoSnr, knowingly without lawful excuse, posted false information to wit… “William Ruto approached DL Langat and told him he desperately needs more money for campaign.”

“DL Langat used his properties as security and took big loans to help his friend. Right now, DL Langat is being auctioned by banks and the person who is buying the properties is William Ruto. To make it worse William Ruto has used his power to undervalue the properties to buy them at a cheaper price. That is the kind of person we are dealing with. He has no friend.” content whose information you knew to be false and calculated to tarnish & discredit the reputation of one David Langat,” reads the charge sheet.

Earlier, the activist was brought into the court premises in the company of his lawyers including NARC Kenya leader Martha Karua.

Also present on Morara’s side were Democratic Alliance Party of Kenya (DAP-K) party leader Eugene Wamalwa and other lawyers.

Kenyans who camped at the court premises in protest burst into cheers as Morara walked into the court.

At the same time, Kenyans chanted ‘Free Morara’ and several anti-government slogans, calling for the resignation of President William Ruto.

Kenyans show up in court in solidarity with Morara

One of Morara’s friends who showed up at the court in solidarity with his arrest said his arrest is attributed to politics.

Evans Kimori who was present at the court claims that Morara was arrested allegedly because he made false allegations against President William Ruto.

He also criticized the political class for their silence, comparing it to the quick response they gave when former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu was abducted.

He noted that while they were swift to speak about Waititu’s abduction, they have remained silent on Morara’s.

‘Political class, where are you? When Waititu was arrested, you spoke loudly, but you draw the line when it comes to Kebaso.’

He further said Morara is at liberty to say what he desires because freedom of expression is enshrined in the constitution.

Wamalwa echoed Kimori’s sentiments saying the freedom of expression is enshrined in the constitution.

Several activists were also present within the court premises among them are Hanifa Adan and Shadrack Kiprono popularly known as Shad Khalif.

Kebaso arrested

Morara was arrested while in his office in Kahawa Sukari and logged into a Subaru Forester KCQ 166J.

It is reported that he was arrested for allegedly defrauding Kenyans and hurling insults at President William Ruto.
