Hours after the court freed Morara Kebaso on October 1, the activist has sent out a passionate message to different categories of people, including cellmates, police, and supporters.
In a statement to everyone who stood by him after he was arrested and arraigned in Milimani Court, Morara expressed his gratitude, saying that his activism would continue.
“The only way I can pay you back is to never be bribed, to be a gentleman of honor and a man of integrity in my duty. I promise to be courageous. You have given birth to a giant, ” he stated.
Morara also took notice of social media users who called out the government for his arrest, applauding Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah for working towards his release.
“To all of you my friends and family who stood with me on X, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and on the ground, Iam grateful. You did this for free out of love. Some of you never slept like Okiyah Omtatah. I don’t even know who paid my cash bail,” he added.
The activist also said he forgave police officers who teargassed him outside the court, adding that he would fight for those arrested during demonstrations.
Additionally, Morara appreciated his cellmates, promising to continue fighting for better governance in the country.
“To my cellmates in all the police stations I was taken to remember what I told you every day of your life. I may not remember all of you but know I am deeply grateful,” he stated.
Morara was arrested on Monday, September 30, 2024, over cyber harassment charges on X targeting President William Ruto and was arraigned in court on October 1,2024.
Why Morara Was Arrested
According to the charge sheet, Morara stood accused of damaging the reputation of businessman David Langat.
The document alleged that he posted false information on his X account on September 28, 2024, with the intent of tarnishing the businessman’s reputation.

“David Morara Kebaso Alias Morara Kebaso Senior: On the 28th day of September 2024 at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, jointly with others not before court, while using the X Corp Account dubbed; Morara Kebaso Snr, knowingly without lawful excuse, posted false information…” part of the charge sheet read.
Morara was released on October 1, 2024, after posting a Ksh 50,00 cash bail.

There was an uproar among the members of the public and politicians who came to Morara’s defense. Demonstrators also gathered outside the court chanting “Free Morara’.
