The Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has apologized to Kenyans over his earlier remarks on the cost of fuel.
On Wednesday, September 20, CS Kuria wrote a statement on X sounding very sarcastic in his apology to Kenyans.
The CS noted that he had been advised by people, including Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale and his master that his remarks on the rising cost of fuel were wrong, arrogant, and insensitive.
“Dear Kenyans. On Friday, September 15, I made some comments indicating that the price of fuel is likely to go up in the coming months owing to global dynamics.
I have since been advised by people like Dr Boni Khalwale and his master that the statement was incorrect, insensitive, and arrogant,” Kuria wrote.
Moreover, the Trade CS stated that he is now aware that the price of fuel will drop, hence his apology.

“I am made to now understand that the price will come down. I apologize profusely since to err is human,” the CS added.
Drill Your Own Oil Wells – Moses Kuria
Moses Kuria on Saturday, September 16 said the cost of fuel will continue rising until February next year.
The CS went ahead to ask Kenyans who are complaining of high fuel prices to drill their own wells.
Furthermore, CS Kuria highlighted that the price of crude oil going up was not a secret as the whole world is aware.
“Ukishinda umesema bei ya mafuta imeongezeka kutoka asubuhi mpaka jioni, si uchimbe kisima chako?” he said. Loosely translating to; ‘If you keep complaining that the prices of fuel have gone up, why don’t you just drill your own oil well?’
Nevertheless, this statement by the Trade CS sparked criticism from Kenyans including leaders like the Kakamega Senator and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, all who condemned the insensitive remarks by the CS.

DP Gachagua and Khalwale Condemns Kuria’a Remarks
Nonetheless, Kuria’s apology seemed to be responding to the Senate Majority Whip Boni Khalwale’s recommendation to President William Ruto to sack the CS over his remarks to Kenyans.
Khalwale while speaking in Kakamega on Sunday, September 17, also called for the sacking of Energy CS Davis Chirchir, and Ruto’s economic advisor David Ndii over their controversial remarks on the cost of fuel.
According to the senator, the trio were tainting the president’s image with their arrogant remarks.
“President Ruto, sack these people otherwise your government will be criticized and il-mouthed even in small functions,” he stated.
Khalwalwe added that leaders should inspire hope during these tough economic times.
Also, while reacting to Kuria’s sentiments, DP Gachagua cautioned all state appointees against addressing Kenyans with arrogance.
The DP further affirmed that the remarks by leaders responding to the high cost of living were not a true representation of sentiments shared by the Kenya Kwanza government.
“I would like to remind them that although the people of Kenya did not employ them directly, they decisively elected President William Ruto who in turn appointed them Cabinet secretaries and Advisors,” he warned.
