Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has responded to recent remarks made by some Kenya Kwanza leaders, asserting that they will “steal votes” to ensure that President William Ruto wins the 2027 General Elections.
While addressing residents in Malava constituency, Kakamega County, on Friday, July 18, Mudavadi distanced President Ruto’s administration from the inflammatory remarks, asserting that the elections will be won through a democratic process.
He further condemned those stating that Ruto’s reelection would involve illegitimate means, stating that the President does not need to steal votes to secure a second term.
“I want to tell politicians from the opposition and also those leaders speaking from the Kenya Kwanza Coalition, saying that President Ruto’s votes will be stolen to stop this foolishness, Ruto will not steal any votes, he will win the election fairly,” the PCS stated.
At the same time, Mudavadi warned leaders against careless remarks in public forums, noting that such talks could erode public confidence and ignite political tension.

He stressed the importance of maintaining public trust in national institutions, particularly the newly constituted Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
“Let us not cast doubt on the integrity of the IEBC. IEBC will conduct a free and fair election in August 2027. IEBC will not allow rigging of the elections, let us stop this cheap publicity, mediocre talk and nonsense that IEBC will rig-in Ruto. President Ruto is not going to steal the votes and has not assigned anybody to steal the votes. He is going to win democratically,” Mudavadi added.
His remarks come after a section of leaders allied to the ruling Kenya Kwanza regime brazenly vowed to secure President Ruto’s 2027 reelection “by any means necessary,” casting fears that the electoral process might be compromised.
Wajir Women Representative Fatuma Abdi Jehow last week sparked widespread condemnation following a controversial statement made on Saturday, July 12, during a public meeting in Wajir.

Jehow’s remarks, suggesting an alleged intention to manipulate electoral outcomes in favour of Ruto in the 2027 general elections, raised alarm within the Opposition.
“Sisi wabunge wa North Eastern maneno ya President, tunasema ‘tutam’, hata kama hatutakua na votes tutamwibia… hio si siri. Sisi tunangoja debe iletwe, hata kama hatutakuwa na votes, sisi maneno yetu ni mafupi,” she said.
This loosely translates to, “For us North Eastern Members of Parliament, matters to do with the President we are saying it is two terms for Ruto, even if we do not have enough votes we will steal for him and that is not a secret. We are waiting for the polls, and even if we will lack the numbers, we use short cuts.”
The statement which went viral after circulating online triggered an immediate and fierce backlash with many Kenyans expressing outrage at what they perceived as a brazen admission of electoral malpractice.
