Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has officially gazetted the establishment of three new sub-regions in Nairobi City County.
In a notice published on Wednesday, November 12, CS Murkomen announced the creation of Nairobi North, Nairobi East, and Nairobi West Service Delivery Coordination Units.
According to Murkomen, during the recently concluded Jukwaa La Usalama public forums, the government announced plans to restructure and reinvigorate the National Administration to enhance service delivery.
CS Murkomen stated that the move aims to bring services closer to citizens through deliberate decentralisation and improved efficiency.
He added that the introduction of the Units has been necessitated by the high population of the capital city, now estimated at more than five million.
Murkomen Gazettes Creation of Three New Sub-Regions in Nairobi
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 14 (1) of the National Government Co-ordination Act (Cap. 127), the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration establishes the following administrative units as Service Delivery Co-ordination Units.”
“To improve service delivery to the residents, three subregions have been created in Nairobi. The creation of Nairobi North, Nairobi East, and Nairobi West Service Delivery Coordination Units has been made necessary by the high population of the capital city, now estimated at more than five million.”

Nairobi North Sub-Region will cover Roysambu, Ruaraka, Kasarani, Kamukunji, and Mathare sub-counties.
Nairobi West Sub-Region will comprise Lang’ata, Kibra, Dagoretti North, Dagoretti South, and Westlands sub-counties.
Meanwhile, the Nairobi East Sub-Region will include Embakasi East, Embakasi West, Embakasi North, Embakasi South, Embakasi Central, Njiru, and Makadara sub-counties.
CS Murkomen Promotes and Posts County Commissioners
At the same time, CS Murkomen announced the promotion of officials who have been serving in the rank of County Commissioner to administer the sub-regions:
Rose Wanjiru Chege will administer the Nairobi West Sub-Region, Patrick Simiyu Werre will administer the Nairobi East Sub-Region, and Simon Odhiambo Osumba will head the Nairobi North Sub-Region.
The three will report to the Regional Commissioner, Nairobi Region.

As part of ongoing efforts to streamline operations within the National Government Administration, CS Murkomen announced the promotion and posting of six officers to the rank of County Commissioner.
The new appointments include Joseph Mwangi Wamuti to Tana River, Linda Adhiambo Okola to Taita Taveta, David Ntawuasa Saruni to West Pokot, Michael K. Yator to Kajiado, Jeremiah Mwai Gicheru to Kericho, and Peter Mwangi Maina to Vihiga.
In addition, several serving County Commissioners have been transferred to new stations, with consideration given to their strengths and experience, as the government addresses security and service delivery concerns raised by wananchi during the Jukwaa La Usalama public forums.
The changes take effect immediately.
