Nairobi Baptist Church has formally announced the removal of its Senior Pastor, Rev. Munengi Mulandi, following what the church leadership described as “serious allegations of misconduct” deemed incompatible with ordained ministry.
In a statement released on August 3 by the church’s Elders Council, Rev. Mulandi’s role officially ended on June 1, 2025.
The decision followed a review process by the council, which concluded that his actions violated biblical standards expected of pastoral leadership.
“As the Body of Christ, we are called to be holy and to uphold righteousness in line with the Word of God,” the statement said. “After prayerful consideration and full awareness of the weight of such an action, the Elders Council made the decision to revoke his ordination.”
Church leadership stated its commitment to transparency, integrity and due process, announcing that an independent investigation has been launched to determine the extent and impact of the allegations.

While specific details of the allegations have not been disclosed, church leaders urged members to remain in prayer and unity as they navigate the crisis.
“We are resolved to handle the matter firmly, with courage, care, and accountability,” the council stated.
Nairobi Baptist Church is one of Kenya’s most prominent evangelical congregations, with a legacy dating back to the 1950s.
The church said it remains committed to upholding the integrity of its pastoral ministry while offering support to its congregants during the transition.
No comment has yet been made publicly by Rev. Mulandi regarding the church’s announcement.
Reactions on his Dismissal
Reactions have continued to surface online following a public statement by Nairobi Baptist Church confirming the removal of Rev. Munengi Mulandi.
“Let the investigations be done and tabled in public so that justice can be seen to be done,” wrote Richard Kavila. “Painful as it may sound but the body of Christ needs to be transparent in its dealings.”

Henry Imbilu questioned the process used by the church’s leadership. “Could the Elders Council not have suspended him first to investigate the matter before sacking or excommunicating him?” he asked. “It already excommunicated him then now seeking to investigate the allegations further? Just my thoughts.”
Valary Akinyi expressed concern over what she viewed as a harsh judgment.
“So sad for a minister if he is guilty but I also feel like it is too harsh and extra judgmental,” she wrote. “As in, whoever says he isn’t qualified to be a minister — are you the qualifier?”
She also called for compassion. “Perhaps the Council of Elders can walk with him for restoration. Noting that those in top leadership are highly targeted by the enemy, where’s the place of love, helping him to be restored?” she added. “I like how CITAM does it. You don’t need to give these details to the public.”
