Veteran media personality Joyce Gituro has issued an apology after facing public backlash over her defense of the expelled Nairobi Baptist pastor, Reverend Munengi Mulandi, who was dismissed due to sexual abuse allegations.
In a statement dated Tuesday, August 5, Gituro said that she was unaware of the full and serious nature of the pastor’s suspension, which led her to initially defend him.
“I shared a comment yesterday, unaware of the full and serious nature of the pastor’s suspension. I assumed it was an internal disciplinary matter and reacted to what seemed like public shaming,” said Gituro.

The deleted social media post that sparked public backlash read: “So, why put it on social media? You’re damaging a brother more!!”
Following her comment, Kenyans criticized her response.
Muthoni Kimani remarked, “So now we’re supposed to protect pedophiles just because they’re your ‘brothers’? Seriously?”
Another user, Esther Gakuo, questioned, “Why would someone comment when they don’t even know the full story?”
On Monday, August 4, 2025, the Nairobi Baptist Church Elders Council issued a statement announcing the removal of the senior pastor from the church.
About the Veteran Media Personality
The church leadership described the pastor’s removal as a response to “serious allegations of misconduct” deemed incompatible with ordained ministry. The decision followed a review process by the council, which concluded that his actions violated the biblical standards expected of pastoral leadership.
“As the Body of Christ, we are called to be holy and to uphold righteousness in line with the Word of God,” the statement read.
“After prayerful consideration and full awareness of the weight of such an action, the Elders Council made the decision to revoke his ordination.”
