Ann Adhiambo Ouma, the woman accused of killing Former Nairobi Hospital Finance Director Eric Maigo has pleaded not guilty in an arraignment on November 9, 2023.
This change of opinion comes days after she pleaded guilty to the said murder charges at the Milimani law courts.
A dispute erupted over her real age as one document presented in court allegedly showed that she was 18 years old.
However, the defense alleged that she was 17 plus nearing 18 years.
As such, Adhiambo was not released on bond after detectives filed an affidavit in court disputing her age.
“I hereby direct the defence to file their response to the affidavit to the detectives and the matter be mentioned after 14 days, ” ruled Justice Mochache

The suspect remained at the Lang’ata Women’s Prison prior to her arraignment in court.
First Case and Murder
Nonetheless, the ruling came after Adhiambo pleaded guilty to the charges of murder when she was first charged before High Court Judge Kanyi Kimondo who gave her two weeks to consult with her lawyers on October 26.
Notably, the suspect pleaded guilty over the charges after they were read to her three times in Kiswahili.
After pleading guilty, Justice Kimondo warned the accused against the consequences of her stand.
“In the interest of justice, I have given her time to consult with her advocates before pleading again, “Judge Kimondo said.
The suspect was arrested in Nairobi’s Kibera Slums on Tuesday, September 26, following an anonymous tip-off days after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations verified her identification.
Maigo was buried on September 29 after he was discovered in a pool of blood with 25 stab wounds at his Woodley Estate apartment in Nairobi on September 15, 2023.
DCI Arrests Suspect in Eric Maigo Murder Case
A day after the fateful night, DCI officers retrieved CCTV footage that placed Adhiambo at the scene.
Screenshots shared from Maigo’s home where the murder took place showed the suspect scaling a perimeter wall to escape.

Subsequently, the detectives probing the murder case established her identity and launched a man hunt mission.
Their search led them to Kibera slums where upon following intel from members of the public they arrested the suspect.
Initially, reports indicated that Adhiambo was a minor and as such was not fit to face the said charges.
In addition to the uncertainties regarding her mental state, Adhiambo’s real age has also been shrouded in mystery with some reports indicating that she is a minor.
