A Nakamata Sacco bus has overturned in an accident along Mombasa Road at Gateway Mall, leading to several injuries.
The vehicle overturned in the middle of the road, causing traffic snarl up in the area.
In videos seen by The Kenya Times, good Samaritans around the area were seen rescuing passengers trapped in the bus as they waited for first responders.
However, witnesses at the scene stated that there were no deaths reported adding that passengers with injuries were rushed to hospital for medical attention.
The bus full of passengers, was on its way to Kitengela in Kajiado county from Mlolongo.

Passenger Narrates Driver’s Mistake
At the same time, a passenger who was pulled out of the overturned bus narrated that the driver was distracted moments before the accident.
According to the witness, the driver kept reaching out for something that was stuck under his seat, causing him to lose control of the bus.
Additionally, he said that the passengers in the vehicle tried to get the driver’s attention by shouting but it was too late.
“I was in this vehicle. I boarded it at Syokimaku area, the driver started reaching out for different things in the bus. he was searching for something below his seat. It is like he was looking for some rag and then he lost control.
“We started telling him that he was going the wrong was. Other people in the bus were shouting but it must have been too late by the time he took control of the vehicle,” he said.

NTSA on Latest Accident Statistics
Data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) indicate that between January 1 to April 30, 2024, road accidents have claimed 1554 lives, with pedestrians being ranked as the most vulnerable road users.
A total number 574 fatalities from the accidents were pedestrians, with motorcyclists following closely at 356 and passengers at 329.
On the other hand, at least 134 drivers have died in the first four months of 2024 while pillion passengers recorded 129 deaths.
According to NTSA, March was the deadliest recording 403 road fatalities followed by the month of April with 388 deaths.
