Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has been beaten and chased out of the Nyayo National Stadium.
Salasya was among the fans who arrived at the stadium on Sunday, March 23, to watch the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier match between Kenya’s national men’s football team, Harambee Stars, and Gabon.
In videos seen by The Kenya Times, the Mumias MP, who was donning an AFC Leopards jersey can be seen engaging in a scuffle with a section of fans inside the stadium.
At one point, an assailant is seen hitting Salasya with a trash bin, which lands on his face as some fans and his security team try to shield him.
Salasya chased out of Nyayo Stadium
Another video shows the lawmaker being escorted out of the stadium by police officers and his security team, who shielded him as he rushed toward his car.
Some fans could be heard chanting, ‘Heshimu Rais! Heshimu Raila!’
Following the incident, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi condemned those behind the attack.
“This is uncouth uncalled for and lugubrious. Whoever planned this against @PKsalasya must be brought to book. It must stop. Freedom of speech and expression is guaranteed in our constitution. We may not agree on how he does his things,but this is a young man trying his luck in life,” he said.

Salasya’s DAP-K Party also condemned the attack in a statement moments later.
“The attack on our legislator Peter Salasya by organized goons at Nyayo stadium is very unfortunate, backwardness and ill-intentioned by known party goons,” the party said.
It is not yet clear if Salasya sustained injuries as he was yet to issue a statement by the time of publishing.
Fans storm stadium
Earlier, football fans forced their way into Nyayo Stadium moments before the highly anticipated Harambee Stars match.
Videos circulating online showed large crowds pushing through entry points, with some fans climbing over stadium barriers to gain access to the seats.
Many supporters had arrived at the stadium hours before kickoff but were unable to enter due to congestion at the gates.

Excitement surrounding the match had been building throughout the day after tickets to the game sold out on March 22.
It remains unclear if any injuries or arrests were reported. The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has yet to release an official statement on the incident.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier match against Gabon, which kicked off at 4 p.m., is Harambee Stars’ first competitive home match since November 2021.
By the time of publishing, the hosts were trailing by one goal, courtesy of an opener from former Arsenal striker and Gabon forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
