Congregants of St Arch Angel Michael Catholic Church in Chaka are puzzled after five armed men in police uniforms broke into their church at night.
Speaking to the press on Wednesday, November 30, the church priest stated that the most questionable thing about the event was that the armed men did not take any valuable items with them.
Further, he narrated that the men came in two groups, broke into their managerial offices and ransacked everything.
“They came at a very odd hour at night and used very crude methods. They went to the main office where we have souvenirs and left with nothing.
“We are waiting for a report from the Directorate of criminal investigations (DCI) to know exactly what they were looking for because they broke three doors and there was a laptop there, but they left it behind,” the priest narrated.

Security Guard Narrates Ordeal
On the other hand, the security guard on duty revealed that on that fateful night, he feared for his life because of threats from the armed men.
In addition, he stated that they asked for his cooperation and at first, pretended to have been looking for a thief who they suspected was hiding withing the church compound.
However, things took an unfortunate turn when he offered to help the men to look for the thief. They directed him to a separate room where they tied him up.
He added that they left him helpless in one of the church facilities and proceeded to get into the church.
“I was doing my daily patrols when I met two the officers at around 2:00 AM. They told me that there was a robber who had escaped towards the church.
“Also, they took me to the lower room and three other officers showed up. They wanted to know where the church offices were, and I told them. Some went inside the office while other two officers remained behind to watch me,” he narrated.
