Kibra Parliamentary Seat aspirant Raila Odinga Junior has clarified a viral video showing him greeting members of the public through a fence in Kilgoris, Narok County, dismissing claims that the incident took place at President William Ruto’s private residence.
In a statement on Tuesday, August 11, Raila Junior said the video was recorded at the public airstrip in Kilgoris after he alighted from an aircraft.
“I have seen the video and the comments circulating about me greeting wananchi through a fence. For clarity: this was not at the President’s private home. It took place at the public airstrip in Kilgoris,” he said.
The clarification follows online debate over footage showing Raila Junior interacting with a crowd gathered behind a chain-link fence.
What the Viral Video of Raila Odinga Junior Showed
The video circulated online after Charlene Ruto’s engagement ceremony, with reports and social media posts claiming that Raila Junior was engaging people who had been locked outside the wedding venue in Kilgoris.
The footage showed Raila Junior walking along a fence and speaking to a group of residents on the other side.
Security personnel could also be seen around the area as members of the crowd stood outside the restricted section.
In his brief interaction, Raila Junior urged the residents to maintain peace and unity.
Raila Junior further promised to organize an official visit to the area, during which he would meet residents and discuss issues affecting ordinary Kenyans.
“Sisi ni madungu, mkae kama kitu kimoja. ODM ni kutatua shida ya watu wa chini. Na mimi nitarudi nikae na nyinyi, asanteni sana,” he said.

Raila Junior Explains Why He Was Behind the Fence
Raila Junior said he had just arrived at the Kilgoris public airstrip when residents who recognized him waved and asked him to come over.
He said the fence seen in the video was not a barrier erected to keep members of the public away from him, but a standard safety barrier separating people from the aircraft landing area.
He added that he simply responded to the residents’ greetings.
“As I alighted from the aircraft, a group of wananchi who recognised me waved me over and asked to greet me. The fence is a standard safety barrier that protects the landing area for aircraft,” he said.
“I responded to their greeting in the normal way one does with members of the public.”
His explanation directly addresses the speculation that the video showed him interacting with people who had been denied access to Charlene Ruto’s wedding.
Video Sparks Online Debate
Some social media users questioned why members of the public appeared to be separated from Raila Junior and linked the scene to the private wedding event.
Other reactions focused on the security arrangements visible around the area.
Raila Junior, however, maintained that the interaction should be understood in the context of his arrival at the public airstrip rather than as an incident at the President’s private residence.
