President William Ruto and several Cabinet Secretaries have announced fresh appointments and reappointments across key government agencies, boards, and state corporations.
The changes, published in a series of Gazette notices, affect a wide range of institutions, including regulatory bodies, universities, and agencies overseeing science, technology, and innovation.
In a notice dated January 16, 2026, President Ruto reappointed Hannah Waitherero Muriithi as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation (KDIC) for a further three-year term, effective January 20, 2026.
KDIC is a statutory institution established under the Kenya Deposit Insurance Act, 2012 (KDI Act, 2012), mandated to provide a deposit insurance scheme for customers of member institutions. It also provides incentives for sound risk management and generally promotes the stability of the financial system and prompt resolution.
President Ruto reappoints KDIC board chair, among others
Ruto reappointed Waitherero Muriithi as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the KDIC board following the expiry of her initial term, having first been appointed to the role in January 2023.
The State Corporations Advisory Committee also saw key appointments. President Ruto reappointed Phillip Mong’ony as the Non-Executive Chairperson for a three-year term, while Muyumba Simon Indimuli was reappointed as Secretary to the Committee for a three-year term, effective January 30, 2026.

In higher education, President Ruto appointed Dr. John Kipngetich Mosonik as Chancellor of Rongo University for a five-year term.
“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 38 (1) (a) of the Universities Act, 2012, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint—JOHN KIPNGETICH M OSONIK (DR.) (ENG.) to be the Chancellor of the Rongo University, for a period of five (5) years, with effect from the 16th January 2026.”
Appointments by CSs
Several Cabinet Secretaries have also exercised their powers to appoint chairpersons and members of selection panels for various state agencies.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi appointed chairpersons and members to selection panels for the recruitment of boards at the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI), the National Research Fund (NRF), and the Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA). The panels are set to dissolve upon completion of their mandates.

On his part, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi appointed Risper Olick as a member of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) board.
Trade CS Lee Kinyanjui also made an appointment to the Anti-Counterfeit Authority.
“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) and (h) of the Anti-Counterfeit Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry appoints—NELSON RIBUTHI GAICHUHIE to be a Member and Chairperson of Board of Directors of the Anti-Counterfeit Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 16th January, 2026.”
At the Financial Inclusion Fund, Cooperatives CS Wycliffe Opranya reappointed Melissa Ngania to its board for a period of three years.
Meanwhile, EAC Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul Moe has reappointed Benson Muema Kilonzo to the Coast Development Authority board for a three-year term, effective February 3, 2026, while Environment CS Deborah Barasa reappointed Winnie Tsuma to the National Environmental Tribunal for a three-year term, effective February 8, 2026.
