Sudan government has accused Kenya of supporting the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) with weapons and logistics.
In a statement issued on June 23 by the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Khartoum condemned comments made earlier this month by the spokesperson of the Kenyan government, Isaac Mwaura, who acknowledged that the United Arab Emirates has backed the RSF in its campaign for control over Sudan’s natural resources and strategic Red Sea access.
“The spokesperson has just stated the obvious,” Sudan’s statement read in part.
“But more alarming is the involvement of the Kenyan Government itself in backing the terrorist Janjaweed militia.”
Sudanese officials allege that military supplies labelled as Kenyan were discovered last month in RSF weapon caches in Khartoum.

They further claim that Kenya has served as a conduit for Emirati arms shipments to the RSF, a group the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) routinely refer to as a “terrorist militia.”

Sudan’s government dismissed the Kenyan spokesman’s suggestion that foreign powers may be aiding SAF in return, labeling those claims as “unfounded.”
The SAF, the statement states, is the legitimate national army constitutionally mandated to defend the country.
“The international community is obligated to support Sudan in exercising the right of self-defense,” the ministry added, drawing comparisons between the RSF and globally designated terrorist groups like ISIS, Al-Shabaab, and Boko Haram.
The RSF, once part of Sudan’s military apparatus, has been locked in a violent power struggle with the SAF since April 2023, plunging the country into a humanitarian and security crisis.
Kenya Cease Support to RSF
The conflict has displaced millions and led to allegations of atrocities by both sides.

Sudan’s foreign ministry also criticized the Kenyan government for promoting what it called a separatist agenda, referring to RSF’s announcement of a “Government of Peace,” which Khartoum views as an illegal bid to divide the country.
“This reckless position by the Kenyan Government poses a serious threat to regional security and the territorial integrity of African states,” the statement said, urging Nairobi to respect international norms, including the UN Charter and African Union agreements.
Sudan concluded its statement by demanding that Kenya “cease all forms of support to the terrorist RSF militia” and recommit to non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign nations.
